100

Yesterday my mom called and told me some news. My Great Uncle Merrill had passed away. I was sad, but it wasn't devastating. I don't want to sound crass, but we weren't close. He was my grandpa's oldest brother (on my mom's side). But there was another reason.
He was 100 years old.

How many people do you know who were 100 years old?
I'd say making it to the 100 year old mark is quite an accomplishment.

So I decided to look up some facts about 100... because I have nothing else to do NOT. It's more like, I don't feel like doing it and obviously want to deprive myself of sleep tonight.

-It's the sum of the first 9 prime #'s
-It's he number of tiles in a standard Scrabble set

Rainy Day, Busy Day

Today, instead of snow, I was greeted with rain. There's something about rainy days thatI love. Sitting on the couch with my mac, blogging, and watching Glee. Things are ok right now =)

We're into week 4 here at DePaul and things are picking up. Papers, tests, & readings oh my! Accounting is starting to become difficult. I have a newfound respect for Commerce students. Acc takes a lot of work, focus, and studying. Microeconomics is pretty deep too. I feel like I'm in a deep trance when I'm in lecture. Lot of math involved. I haven't taken a math class in a year (statistics spring quarter 2010). I've always been decent at math though so I'm not too worried. I'm just going to have to work hard.

DAB is busy as well. Today I got to announce our Big Comedian is Bo Burnham. I'm extremely excited that things are coming together for this. I'm just as excited for tomorrow when John Mulaney will be performing in 24 hours!! Things are coming along for After Hours as well. Oh, and I got a blog shout out! My first ever (I think anyway...) Even though today is on the cooler side (temperature wise), the sun is shining so I can't really complain. It was nice to just wear a sweatshirt out today. My mood is usually corresponding to the weather lol. Is there a specific term for that? It was nice to see flowers in bloom and just enjoy the fresh air.

Today I did a lot of reading about women. I read for my US Women's History class. The topic was women in the times of the Revolutionary War. They weren't just housewives and wanted rights. Cool! I learned something new. Now I think I know what I'm going to write my paper about.

For my St. Louise class, I had to read about St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (bringing out my Catholic nerd in this post, fyi). I realize I dislike reading about the saints because it's always so depressing. If they weren't tortured to death, they kind of had tortured souls. The common theme of what I read was depression. St. Elizabeth had a lot of suffering... and that sucks. I almost wanted to start crying in Starbucks, but that would have been embarrassing. The past few days have been a little emotional for me, so after I finished reading 20+ pages of unhappiness, I walked back and watched some comedy videos.



This week is DAB Comedy marathon week, w/ John Mulaney on Wednesday and I am beyond excited. Glad I have that to look forward to. Now, to finish my small mountain of homework!

Pretzel Bread

How are we already half-way through April?? I wish Chicago would realize that and warm up. Today it decided to rain, which was a perfect day for baking.

I decided to expand my baking horizons and bake pretzel bread. Yesterday I got inspired and bought all my ingredients. I've never made bread before so I was a little nervous. The kneeding sure did take a while (got an arm work out for today haha) and then I waited for the dough to rise.

After punching the dough (the best part in my opinion) I sectioned it off in rounds and had to boil it for a minute each. When I put them in the oven, I realized I forgot to buy kosher salt for the top, but they turned out delicious without! I decided to put peanut butter on mine for dinner and it was probably the best decision I made today.

My 100th post!

Well folks, this is my 100th blog post on Blogger. OMG!!!! (I pretty much had this reaction)

What should I talk about?? Well, I think I"ll do a potpourri kind of post.

I. THIS WEATHER!
OMG, I can't believe it! I forgot what life without a jacket was like! Of course, it's not here to stay, but I'm enjoying it. Yesterday I watched my friend's lacrosse game and got a little sunburn on my arms. I don't remember the last time I got a sunburn in April. This is making me super anxious for summer, even though I have 8 weeks left of the quarter, while my friends have about a month left of their semester. Oh the life of the quarter system.
A. Festivals
The Red Eye released the festival calendar on Friday and I CANNOT wait to spend the whole summer here in Chi. It's going to be wonderful! My goal is to get all of my friends here at some point during the summer.
B. Internship!
I'm super excited :)

II.COOKIES
I forgot to take pictures, but I made "mint crinkle" cookies on Thursday night and they turned out DELICIOUS. I was nervous because you had to combine certain ingredients together in a certain way, but I was super happy. I think Bread Co.'s are a little better, but mine get the job done. III. The Government
I normally don't blog about politics, but I have to say, I'm sure as hell glad the gov't did not shut down. That just makes America look stupid. Our politicians who make cushy salaries almost could not overcome their differences. That just gives off an immature-high school vibe. "I don't like you so I'm not going to try and reconcile with you for the greater good of the United States." GET OVER YOURSELF. The fact that military members might not have received their paychecks is absurd. The shut-down did not happen (thank God), but it never should have come to the point where we thought it was going to. I think Congress needs to have a communication skills workshop. Or maybe a Mean Girls-esque retreat where they hash out their differences and do trust falls.
