Hot Chocolate at Forever Yogurt

I love Forever Yogurt, but now that the temperatures have dropped, frozen yogurt is not on my biggest craving. I've switched from craving ice cream to warm drinks and comfort foods (soup in a bread bowl, mac 'n cheese).
A few days ago my friend bought a Groupon that was $2 for 2 hot chocolates from Froth, the hot chocolate counterpart of Forever Yogurt. I went with her and ordered the Andes-Mint Hot Chocolate.

It was super delicious, but the best part was the fact that you got to customize your toppings. They had crushed Butterfingers, sprinkles, chocolate chips and basically UNLIMITED marshmallows. As you can see, I added a fair amount of 'mallows to my hot chocolate. Marshmallows go perfectly with hot chocolate and these marshmallows were the perfect size & not stale (that's the worst!).
You may remember last winter I did the "hot chocolate quest." I don't think I'll do that this year, but I'd give it 5/5 stars :-)
Oh, and since I am the queen of deals, I thought I'd pass along that you should "like" Caribou Coffee on Facebook because they are posting some sweet deals the next month. Yesterday they had medium caramel drinks for $2!! Hopefully they have a hot chocolate deal because it's soooo good!

The Thanksgiving Post

Today's the day we gather and give thanks. I haven't been home for actual Thanksgiving since my freshman year at DePaul so it was nice to spend it with just my parents at our house today. No big commotion, but that's how we roll.

Thanksgiving also signals the end of fall quarter & the beginning of winter break. The next 7 weeks are doing whatever I please, and it's my last ever winter break. That's kind of weird to accept, but I have a trip to Arizona coming up so I'll get to experience some warm weather :-)

So, without further adieu, the 2012 Thankful List (in no specific order):

  • My memories, pictures, & things I have from Liz.
  • My Lolla bracelet to remind me of the positive memories from the summer
  • My supportive family & friends
  • I survived the dreaded GAM 244. No all-nighters, and no massive break-downs. Also thankful I had a good group for the final project
  • That my train wasn't super delayed
  • Virgin Atlantic & Southwest Airlines
  • Suits
  • Gap
  • Pintrest (for recipes!)
  • Dr. Pepper
  • My apartment that I'm still living in w/ my great roommates
  • Netflix
  • Starbucks white mochas with a pump of raspberry :-)
  • Pretzel bread

Of course there's more, but these are the ones that stick out the most. Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Savor the Flavor no More

I was walking on Sheffield last week and I found out that a neighborhood favorite has closed: Savor the Flavor.

Though I was not a frequent customer, Savor the Flavor had a great atmosphere. They had ice cream, pastires, hot chocolate, and best of all: grilled cheese. They were known for their grilled cheese; probably my favorite with the exception of my own ;-) It was a great study spot and about a 10 minute walk from my apartment.

Apparently Savor the Flavor closed months ago, I just never noticed. It makes me sad. I remember going there as a freshman. I hope something goes in fairly soon.

I've also recently mourned Big Stuff Pizza on Lincoln. I had only been there once, but it was nice knowing I could go somewhere for a piece of pizza if I didn't want to order a whole one.

But that's what happens when you live somewhere for 4 years. Places come, and places go.

Getting closer to being a real person

Things got real the past few weeks. I registered for my last ever quarter at DePaul. Fall quarter is coming to an end (approximately 20 days left) and then the only thing between me and completing my degree at DePaul is a 6 week winter break and 10 week quarter (11 weeks if you count finals).

Everyone's asking me what I want to do when I'm done at DePaul. The future is scarey & exciting. I know 2 things though

  • I want a job (related to technology). Grad school's not right for me at this moment
  • I want to stay in Chicago.

Obviously, if my dream job is in another city I'll take it, but I really like living in Chicago. It's a great city and it's not too far from my hometown (about 6 hours). I'm really early in the job search, but I have been researching some companies, beefing up my resume, and practicing my interview skills. It's hard to believe in less than a year I'll be a "real" person!

I've been busy blogging, which is my excuse for not blogging here much. DeBlogs is fun & I helped launch a blog for OSI. Initially it was 1 post a week, but now we've uped it to 2 posts a week. My amazing coworker helped me design it and it has been a lot of fun. I'm also helping a former fellow StyleChicago.com intern design her blog.

Hopefully I can make time to be more active on this blog. Soon I'll have to change the title to "Being an Adult in the City."
